EdemaWear stockinettes are designed to help manage edema, which is the swelling caused by excess fluid getting trapped in the tissues of the body. EdemaWear is often used as an alternative to traditional compression stockings or bandages, because these stockinettes provide consistent, moderate compression without squeezing too tightly.
Unique to EdemaWear, the Fuzzy Wale Elastic Compression (FWEC) is a proprietary fabric technology that creates small channels, or spaces on the skin, which allows fluid to move more effectively through the lymphatic system. The wales (ribbed pattern) in EdemaWear also allow for better ventilation, and they help prevent heat from trapping.
Compression plays a critical role in treating lymphedema and edema as it helps promote fluid movement and prevent fluid accumulation (which leads to swelling). The gentle pressure that compression applies to the tissues stimulates your lymphatic vessels to move fluid out of the swollen area and into the circulatory system. Compression also helps improve blood circulation, prevent tissue hardening and skin damage, and reduce pain and discomfort.
The EdemaWear compression stockinettes are superior to other compression products in many respects. Top features of the stockinettes include:
EdemaWear stockinettes are more comfortable than other compression stockinettes and bandages because of the Fuzzy Wale technology (the soft, raised “fuzzy” ridges that are on the inside of the stockinettes). These wales make the EdemaWear stockinettes feel cooler and more breathable. The Fuzzy Wales also apply a more gentle and focused pressure, which reduces the feeling of tightness. Because the Fuzzy Wales help distribute pressure more evenly you are also less likely to experience painful pressure points or the discomfort that is commonly associated with traditional compression garments and bandaging.
EdemaWear stockinettes can be used on various body parts to help manage swelling and improve fluid drainage. EdemaWear is commonly used on:
The main difference between EdemaWear and traditional compression stockings lies in the Fuzzy Wale technology. The unique raised ridges that are built into EdemaWear provide a gentler, more dynamic compression that helps improve fluid drainage and air flow. EdemaWear stockinettes are more breathable and comfortable to wear. They are easier to put on and take off, and are less likely to cause discomfort and skin irritation, and especially for long-term wear. EdemaWear also feels less restrictive.
You can gently hand wash EdemaWear or machine wash the stockinettes (in a mesh laundry bag, on delicate cycle). Avoid harsh detergents, and be sure to thoroughly rinse EdemaWear if you hand wash it. Air dry your EdemaWear by laying it flat or hanging it. Avoid direct sunlight, because UV rays can damage the material over time. If you see any signs of wear (such as fraying or stretched-out areas), you will need to replace the stockinette.
EdemaWear stockinettes are also referred to as EdemaWear stockings, EdemaWear compression stockinettes, EdemaWear socks, and EdemaWear tubular stockinettes.
